MIHV’s Somali TV Project develops culturally-sensitive health education videos and DVDs in the Somali language. Started collaboratively in 2004 with Somali-TV of Minnesota, a Minneapolis-based cable television program, each show highlights a specific health topic through interviews, dramas, community events and cultural performances. Respected Somali health professionals and community leaders bring their expertise and cultural insight to addressing specific health needs of the Somali community.

The initial Somali TV project series, Caafimaadkeena—Our Health, includes nine shows on the following topics:

•    Childbirth Experiences
•    Breastfeeding and Child Spacing
•    Child Health: Immunization, Check-Ups and Dental Care
•    HIV/AIDS
•    Tuberculosis
•    Hepatitis B
•    Breast and Cervical Cancer
•    Cardiovascular Disease
