Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia’s Upper House of Parliament on Monday approved amendments to the Somali Accountants Authority law and passed the Juvenile Justice bill, advancing legislation aimed at strengthening financial oversight and improving protections for children.
The Accountants Authority amendments were approved by an absolute majority, with 29 senators voting in favour, two abstaining and none opposing.
In the same sitting, senators approved the Juvenile Justice bill after its third and final reading. The bill passed with 30 votes in favour, one against and no abstentions.
Sen. Said Abdi Hussein, a member of the Upper House Justice Committee, introduced the third reading and stressed the bill’s importance in protecting children’s rights and establishing a justice system tailored to Somalia’s legal and social conditions.
Justice Minister Hassan Moalim Mahmoud welcomed the bill’s approval, thanking senators for their support. He said the legislation would help ensure a specialized justice system for minors that is consistent with international legal standards.
