This Poem was published on Hiiraan Online in January 2017 (a month before President Famaajo was elected). We are publishing it again at the end of President Farmaajo’s four years mandate. The poem reminds us that true democracy and rule of law are not just a Western thing but a human thing. We are very confident that WE, the Somali people will rise from the ashes of the civil war and build a truly democratic, powerful and prosperous country.
LIKE THE MEN IN THE WEST
In the Horn of hell we dare to hope
United in heart the law will rule
And live like the men in the West
With believe in God and love for land
Forward we leap and fly and fly
And live like the men in the West
With stamina and sweat we claim
And own what is good in nature
And live like the men in the West
There is more to claim and more to own
Just aim that high and see no limit in sky
And live like the men in the West
To rule this land our land
For He and She no gun in hand
With paper in the box it’s what they do
It’s what we can
To live like the men in the West
