Galkacyo (HOL) — The leaders of Galmudug and Puntland regional states, Ahmed Abdi Kariye and Said Abdullahi Deni, co-chaired a high-level meeting at the Presidential Palace in Galkayo on Friday night.
The meeting, attended by various officials from both administrations, focused on enhancing collaboration in key areas such as security, trade, peacebuilding, and development.
During the meeting, both sides reflected on their existing cooperation agreement, addressing achievements, challenges, and opportunities for further collaboration. A major outcome of the discussions was a roadmap to accelerate peace efforts in the conflict-prone Mudug region.
The two governments agreed on several key points:
1. Strengthening cooperation in security, peace, trade, economic development, and social integration between Galmudug and Puntland.
2. Holding quarterly ministerial-level meetings to monitor and ensure progress in these areas.
3. Implement development projects in conflict areas to help communities recover.
4. Jointly studying drainage management in the Galkayo district to address infrastructure needs.
