Mogadishu (HOL) - At least nine al-Shabab militants were
killed in an airstrike conducted by Somali army forces, supported by
international allies, in Middle Shabelle and Galgadud regions.
A statement from the Ministry of Information on Wednesday
said that the airstrike took place in the areas of Ali Helle and Barag Sheikh
Aamir. Four militants were killed in Ali Helle, while five others were killed
in the Barag Sheikh Aamir area.
"In the first operation, the army targeted a military
vehicle and a truck belonging to the group. Four militiamen were killed on the
spot. The second operation targeted a militant position in Barag Sheikh Aamir
in the Galgadud region,” the statement said.
However, this comes a month after the Somali government,
backed by international partners and local clan militias, killed about 80
al-Shabab militants and wounded dozens more in three operations in the
country’s southern and central regions."
