Mogadishu (HOL) — The commander of the 3rd Division of the Somali Police Dervish Army, Abdulkadir Mohamed Hashi, known as Juqlawe, was killed early on Monday morning during a clan conflict in the Haji Ali area of Middle Shabelle, Somali Police Force officials confirmed.
Juqlawe's death, confirmed by 2nd Deputy Police Commander General Zakiya Hussein, occurred while he was mediating a dispute between rival militias in Adale District, an area plagued by years of inter-clan violence.
"May God have mercy on us. Abdulkadir Mohamed Hashi Juqlawe, commander of the Dervish Police Union in Middle Shabelle, was martyred this morning while working to separate two communities in conflict," Hussein posted on Facebook. She described Juqlawe as a dedicated officer who regularly intervened in disputes to prevent violence.
Juqlawe's leadership was critical in the ongoing efforts to maintain peace in regions such as Middle Shabelle, where clan militias have repeatedly fought. The federal government recently sent additional police forces to Middle Shabelle to manage and quell the recurring clan conflicts that have claimed many lives.
