Mogadishu (HOL) - Sayid Ali Moalin Haji Daoud, suspected of fatally burning his pregnant wife in Mogadishu, arrived at Aden Adde International Airport on Tuesday following his arrest. Sayid was arrested along with two accomplices following an extensive manhunt in the Adeyley district of the Mudug region.Luul Abdiaziz, a dedicated employee at Aden Adde Airport and a mother of six, was tragically killed along with her unborn child in late January. This act of violence is part of a broader context of gender-based violence in Somalia, highlighted by the deaths of three women in marriage disputes within a single week.
In response to his daughter's murder, Sheikh Abdiaziz Mohamed held a press conference in Mogadishu, demanding accountability. Expressing gratitude towards the federal government for the swift arrest of Daoud, Sheikh Abdiaziz highlighted the need for a thorough examination of systemic issues that enable such violence. He stated, "My daughter and her unborn child deserve justice. Their killer should face the full extent of the law."
Authorities in Mogadishu have announced that Daoud will be tried for murder.
