Bujumbura (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived on Wednesday for a one-day working visit to Burundi, where he will meet with his Burundian counterpart, Evariste Ndayishimiye. President Hassan Sheikh is in discussions with his counterpart, who serves as the chairman of the East African Community (EAC) umbrella, on how to expedite the completion of the Federal Republic of Somalia's bid to join the regional bloc.
According to the Somali government, the President's visit is focused on strengthening cooperation and organizing the war against al-Shabab militants, as Burundi is one of the countries contributing troops to AU troops in Somalia.
This move would allow Somali businesses to engage in operations across all eight member states, and the Somali passport would be incorporated into the East African Community Passport Union, facilitating seamless movement for Somali citizens within the region.
Members of the President's delegation will engage in various meetings with their counterparts in Burundi.
