Kismayo (HOL) - US-trained Danab Special Forces and Jubbaland Darawish forces carried out an anti-al Shabab operation in the Lower Jubba region on Friday, killing at least 13 terrorists, including a senior leader.
The operation was conducted in Turdho village and the areas along the river bank, according to Arab Dheeg Ahmed, Commander of the 5th Brigade of the 16th Battalion of the Danab Special Forces. Ahmed added that the senior leader killed in operation was Aruriyow Mohamed Omar, who used the alias Ahmed Salah in the group.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is currently in Kismayo, praised the latest government forces operation, particularly Friday's one, but did not specify how many militants were killed.
"I congratulate the national army and Jubaland forces on their victory in Friday's operation. The federal government is stepping up its efforts in ongoing operations. The liberation operation is going well in this state, and I applaud the Jubbaland leaders and its people for working together to liberate their areas."
Since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared an all-out war against the militants last year, the government forces have intensified their attacks against Al-Shabaab.
