Somali President dissolves Judicial Service, Anti-Corruption Commissions

Sunday October 9, 2022

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday dissolved the Judicial Service Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission in a Presidential decree and called on the government to appoint new committees.

Last year, the Upper House issued a document opposing the appointment of the committees and saying their selection was not carried out in accordance with the Constitution.

In the decree, Mohamud stated the decision to axe both committees was made after referring to the letter from the Upper House on December 12, 2021.

He also directed the cabinet to quickly form new committees in accordance with articles 71, 109A, and 112 of Somalia’s Provisional Constitution, as well as article 7 of the law establishing the judicial service council and appointing the anti-corruption committee.

President Hassan Sheikh has also rescinded all the decisions made by the two committees.
