Somaliland releases two journalists on pardon

    Hargeisa (HOL) - Somaliland authorities released two journalists, MMTV owner Mohamed Abdi Sheikh Ilig and Horn Cable TV journalist Abdijabar Mohamed Hussein on Saturday after receiving a pardon from President Muse Bihi.

    Both journalists spent two months and 14 days in Hargeisa central prison.

    Mohamed Abdi Ilig commended the journalists for their efforts and support while imprisoned. He thanked the media community for the support.

    "Today, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the media, especially the journalists, who were instrumental in assisting us while we were imprisoned," he said.

    The two journalists were among 18 arrested in Hargeisa in April this year by the police for covering a prison fight in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland.
