Qatar condemns attack on beachside restaurant in Mogadishu

Sunday April 24, 2022

Mogadishu (HOL) - Qatar has strongly condemned and denounced a bomb blast by Somalia’s al Shabaab militants that hit a seaside restaurant in Mogadishu, killing at least six people and wounding seven.

In a statement through it's Minsitry of Foreign Affars, Qatar said it rejected violence and terrorism, regardless of the motives or reasons.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at the restaurant entrance, where a group of Somali lawmakers gathered to break their Ramadan fast.

Abdikadir Abdirahman, the director of Aamin Ambulance, Mogadishu’s only emergency rescue service, told local media that they had carried six dead civilians and seven others injured from the blast scene.

Somali government spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu confirmed that Somali Police Force Commander General Abdi Hassan Hijar was unharmed at the restaurant.

The al-Qaeda-linked armed group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said it was targeting army officers and politicians who were having a meeting at the restaurant in Mogadishu’s Abdiaziz district.
