Assault case against Wajir MP Amin withdrawn

Saturday November 20, 2021

An assault case against Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim Amin was on Thursday withdrawn after Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi said she had forgiven him.

While withdrawing the case, Gedi said she decided to forgive her ‘brother'.

She further said they should continue to embrace the handshake which was initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and  Raila Odinga.
Gedi said she will work together with Kassim and promote unity in Wajir county.

They both promised to work together and support each in the forthcoming election.

MP Kassim appreciated the woman rep for accepting his apology.

The trial magistrate Martha Nanzushi marked the case as withdrawn.

Kassim was accused of assaulting Gedi at Parliament in 2019.

The court heard that at around mid-morning at the Parliament parking lot, Kassim willfully and unlawfully assaulted Gedi and injured her.

Kassim reportedly accosted the female lawmaker and engaged her in a heated discussion before the alleged attack.
The incident allegedly happened in the presence of other legislators and security officers who were manning Parliament.

This was ahead of then National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich’s unveiling of the Sh3.02 trillion 2019-20 budget.

Kassim demanded to know why Gedi, who is a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, failed to allocate money to his constituency during a recent visit by the budget team.

He was out on a cash bail of Sh50,000.
