COLUMBUS (HOL) - Somalia’s former ambassador to the U.S Abdikarim Ali Omar has died, the family said.
Relatives said the former diplomat died Tuesday night in Ohio following hospitalisation in the past few days. They did not however reveal the circumstances which led to their kin’s death.Omar served as ambassador to the U.S during the sunset years of Siad Barre administration for two months between November and December of 1989.
Prior his post in Somali embassy in Washington, Omar headed Somalia's embassy in Canada.
Omar announced his bid for the presidency in Somalia last October.
