MOGADISHU (HOL) - Prime Minister Mohamed Roble held talks with the opposition presidential candidates and Federal Member State leaders amidst simmering tensions following grievances over the manner in which the ongoing elections are being conducted.
The meeting came about four days since the Council of Presidential Candidates announced the convening of a national conference to chart the next course of action in light of the emerging issues from the elections.
The CPC said in a statement it would form technical and security committees to plan the conference.
Federal Indirect Elections Team (FEIT) chairman Mohamed Irro said the meeting discussed ways to ‘implement free, fair and timely elections acceptable to all.’ Irro also briefed the meeting on the progress made so far in the Lower House elections.
The CPC has maintained that the elections should be stopped and reviewed following complaints from clans, candidates and members of the public.
However, Roble who is heading the process has insisted the elections will go in accordance with the electoral timetable.
