MOGADISHU (HOL) - The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has condemned an attack by the militant group Al-Shabaab on one of its convoys in the outskirts of Mogadishu.
AMISOM said in a statement Monday the convoy was leaving its Forward Operating Base in Maslah heading to Mogadishu when it was hit by an improvised explosive device(IED).
According to the AU force, one person who was near the scene of the attack was killed and that the truck was partially damaged.
“AMISOM strongly condemns the attack on the convoy and presents its condolences to the family of the deceased,” the statement read in part.
The militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
Sunday’s attack came barely a week after the militants laid ambush on AMISOM base in Dhusamareb, central Somalia.
The militants were however pushed back and suffered casualties according to military sources.
