PM Roble vows to fight graft, boost revenue collection

Sunday November 1, 2020

MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somalia’s newly appointed Prime Minister Mohamed Roble has vowed to root out corruption in government as the Horn of Africa nation remains one of the most corrupted country in the world.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the Ministry of Finance, Mogadishu Port and the Central Bank, Roble said his administration was committed to fighting corruption and ensuring prudent management of public funds.

“The PM pledged to fight corruption and boost revenue collection,” a tweet from the PM read in part.

Transparency International has for over a decade now ranked Somalia the most corrupt nation in the world in company of South Sudan and North Korea.

The Cabinet this week endorsed a $671 million budget for the 2021 financial year; rising from $470 million in 2020.

Out of these, the government banks on international donors to finance more than half as it projects a domestic revenue of $260 million.
