Mogadishu (HOL) - Qatar-based media Al Jazeera Media Network went under a major cyber attack on Thursday reporting that all its systems including website and social media accounts have been hit, according to the networks Twitter page.

According to Al Jazeera, they are experiencing "systematic and continual hacking attempts" which were "gaining intensity and taking various forms” but, "the platforms have not been compromised".

A senior employee told Reuters that all it’s systems are operational despite large parts of the media group’s main website - www.aljazeera.com/ - being offline for parts of Thursday evening.

As of 8:55 pm (local time) the website is active.

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior launched an inquiry last month after accusing hackers of publishing false remarks attributed to Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on QNA, Qatar's state-run news agency.

The FBI has concluded that freelance Russian hackers were responsible for the hack that has currently placed Qatar and the Gulf in the regions greatest diplomatic crisis in years.

The alleged cyber attacks comes as Qatar is tangled in a diplomatic disaster with its neighbours. On June 5 several Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain severed ties with Qatar for sponsoring terrorism and undermining their foreign policies abroad.

Al Jazeera is owned by Qatar's government and funded by the Gulf state's ruling Al Thani family.
