Only in 2017 there were a million people displaced due to the dry season and internal conflicts, said the UN agency.

At the beginning of the year, 80,000 people lived in emergency conditions before suffering from famine and now in December the figure reached 800 thousand, the report added.

The impact of the drought is estimated at losses of more than three billion dollars and about 1.7 billion dollars are needed in the next five years to boost the development of infrastructure, water resources management and other efforts aimed at increase agricultural production, said UNPD.

According to the United Nations, Somalia is going through a deep humanitarian crisis and faces crucial challenges, including the neutralization of the terrorist group Al Shabaab.
