Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has said the 132 KVA Kindaruma, Mwingi, Garissa Power Line will be commissioned in three weeks.
During the site seeing on Saturday with Engineer Fernandes Baraza, the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company M, Duale said the commissioning will end the current power hitches in Garissa township.
"Currently Garissa is experiencing power hitches, a problem they said will be sorted out completely once the power line is commissioned," he said.
The project which will be commissioned by H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta, is the first since independence and is one among other projects that the Jubilee Government is fulfilling in the energy and infrastructure sector including the 140km Nuno, Modogash road that is underway.
On completion, the project will supply Garissa 11KVA.
The transmission lines will interconnect substations in Eldoret, Kisii and Kindaruma that are to be implemented under the Kenya Electricity Expansion Project (KEEP).
The town’s maximum power demand is about 2.1 MW that is sourced from one heavy fuel oil generator and three industrial diesel oil generators with a capacity of 3.4MW.
