Kenyan authorities have deported a Somali terror suspect who was arrested in the coastal city of Mombasa on Monday, an official said Tuesday.

Head of Anti-Terrorism Police Unit Munga Nyale said that the suspect, Alweys Omar, who is also a businessman, was deported from Nairobi to Somalia after thorough interrogation.

Omar's lawyer protested that the decision to deport him without following the due process.

"It's a serious case of injustice. The man has been cleared by the court, and has valid refugee documents," said the lawyer.

Omar is from a wealthy refugee family in Somalia and came to Kenya 19 years ago. He is accused of being close to businessmen directly linked with international wiring of funds that support terror activities including firearms supply and recruitments.

The East African nation is reeling from a spate of terrorist attacks targeting innocent civilians in places of worship, shopping malls and restaurants.
