Leaders from Garissa County have condemned the killing of four people in Dujis over suspected clan instigated feuds.

Balambala MP Abdikadir Aden and Governor Nathif Jama said the killings were disturbing and urged locals to stay away from violent activities.

Four people were killed on Wednesday morning by armed people who are still on the run.

The leaders criticised the security apparatus for failing to prevent bloodshed in the area as a result of inter-clan related conflicts.

The leaders at the same time called on the immediate identification of boundaries by the relevant authorities so as to stop the skirmishes.

Early on Wednesday morning, four people were killed in Sheptaaad village in Dujis, Balambala sub-county after unknown gunmen sprayed them with bullets killing three brothers and one-year-old girl.
“It’s very unfortunate that people are killing each other for no apparent reason in the name of clan. As the governor, I’ am really disturbed by the latest incidents because insecurity and clan violence is a major hindrance to any meaningful development,” Mr Jama told Nation.co.ke on Thursday.

RESOLVE BOUNDARY DISPUTES

He called on the national government which is responsible for boundaries to move with speed and solve any dispute related to borders within the affected areas.

Mr Jama also called on the locals to share available resources like pasture and water equally without resorting to violence leading to loss of lives.

We will not accept any kind of aggression. The police must work extra hard to ensure culprits are apprehended and protect the lives of innocent people,” he added.

Mr Aden, in whose constituency the latest killings happened, accused the government of laxity saying similar incidents have happened before but no action has been taken against the perpetrators.

“It's unfortunate that this is the third incident which has caused deaths and injuries yet to this day no one has been arrested or appeared before a court of law. Those who carried out these attacks are not from far but from neighbouring settlements and are known,” the MP told Nation,co,ke from Brussels in Belgium where he said he is on an official trip.

The legislator claimed that the government had failed to post police officers to the Dujis station despite having made formal requests.

Through the CDF, a police post was constructed and the MP now wants the county commissioner to deploy officers at the station immediately.

Meanwhile, Nation.co.ke has learnt that there is rising tension in Dujis and hundreds of people have fled from their respective residence fearing retaliatory attacks from rival clans.

Kenya Red Cross have at the same time deployed officers to assess the situation while the county government has send elders from different clans to start reconciliation process while appealing locals to return to their homes.
