CAPE TOWN – Eastern Cape police said on Monday a Somali national who is charged with the murder of a man in New Brighton will soon appear in court.

The incident sparked the looting of Somali-owned shops in New Brighton and Kwazakhele, two of Port Elizabeth’s biggest townships.

Eastern Cape police spokeswoman Colonel Sibongile Soci said, “The police are maintaining a high visibility in both areas. The suspect was arrested for shooting and killing a 30-year-old man in New Brighton.”

Several people have been arrested in connection with the looting incidents and are due to appear in court on Tuesday.
