Inaugurating Turkish Lounge at UN together with UN Deputy Secretary
General Jan Eliasson, Davutoglu expressed hope that Turkish Lounge would
be a home where good initiatives would be taken for peace.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said everybody expected the
UN Security Council to take urgent steps in order to end the tragedy in
Syria.
Inaugurating Turkish Lounge at UN together with UN Deputy Secretary
General Jan Eliasson, Davutoglu expressed hope that Turkish Lounge would
be a home where good initiatives would be taken for peace.
Noting that Turkey was willing to make more contributions in regional
and global peace as well as UN mission, Davutoglu said that it was one
of the principles of Turkish foreign policy to work more actively and to
be more visible in UN system.
Eliasson said that the Turkish Lounge was one of the examples of
Turkey's contributions in UN, adding that Turkey was helping UN in
Somalia and humanitarian assistance issues.
Eliasson also offered condolences following the twin car bomb attacks
in Turkey's southern Reyhanli town, and also thanked Turkey as it had
been hosting Syrian citizens who escaped from violence in their country.
Davutoglu also held a meeting with Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk at Turkey's permanent representation in UN.
They discussed recent developments in Cyprus issue as well as
upcoming meeting between Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders in
the end of May.
