The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) is alarmed by the arrest of a journalist in Beledhawo town of Gedo region in southwestern Somalia by the Al-Shabaab militants on Sunday, 26 September 2010.

Mohamed Qani Hussein Kuusow, who is stringer for Radio Shabelle and Radio Markabley, was arrested after he filed a report to Radio Shabelle based in Mogadishu and Radio Markabley in Bardhere town about reported military movements of the government forces based in Doolow town. It is the third day he remains in Al-Shabaab jail.

Al-Shabaab accused the reporter for making an “incitement of people” and “creation of fear to the people”. Al-Shabaab said they will bring him to Islamic court soon, though they did not set specific date for the court.
