Kismayo (HOL) – Somali elite Danab Commandos, in collaboration
with the Jubbaland Security and Intelligence Agency (JSIA) and backed by
international partners, have killed at least 18 al-Shabaab militants in a major
military operation conducted in Jamaame district of Lower Juba region,
authorities said.
According to a statement from the Jubbaland administration,
the joint forces carried out coordinated air and ground assaults in several
locations, including Qoraxey, Siirey, Farbulaay, Turdho, Yiirey, Janaale Jaay,
and Maleyley—all situated under Jamaame district.
The statement said 32 militants were wounded during the
operation, which also resulted in the destruction of al-Shabaab hideouts
located within dense forested areas used by the group as logistical bases.
Security officials noted that the operation was aimed at disrupting
al-Shabaab’s movement and supply lines in Lower Juba, where the group has been
attempting to regroup after suffering a series of defeats in recent months.
The Danab Commandos and Jubbaland forces, with support from
international partners, have been conducting regular joint operations targeting
al-Shabaab strongholds in Jubbaland as part of ongoing efforts to weaken the
militant group’s presence in southern Somalia.
