Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on
Thursday met with the newly elected members of the East African Legislative
Assembly (EALA) at the Presidential Palace in Mogadishu.
The meeting followed Wednesday’s election by the Federal
Parliament, which selected nine lawmakers to represent Somalia in the regional
assembly — a key milestone in the country’s deeper integration into the East
African Community (EAC), less than a year after joining the bloc.
President Mohamud congratulated the legislators, noting that
they carry a significant national responsibility to safeguard Somalia’s
interests and advance its vision for economic cooperation and regional
partnership.
He urged the EALA members to demonstrate strong leadership,
professionalism, and patriotism, emphasizing the importance of amplifying
Somalia’s voice and influence within the East African Legislative Assembly.
The nine lawmakers elected to represent Somalia at EALA are:
Hussein Hassan Mohamed, Ilhaan Ali Gasar, Faysal Abdi Roble, Abdisalaam
Hadliye, Abdirahman Bashir Sharif, Fahma Ahmed Nur, Fadumo Abdullahi, Abukar
Mardaadi, and Sahra Ali Hassan.
