Garowe (HOL) — At least ten Puntland security forces were
killed and five others injured in an explosion along the Daraymadobe road
between Qurac and Gaatir-Oodan near the Jeceel River in the Bari region.
According to security sources, the soldiers targeted in the
attack were members of the Third Brigade of the Puntland Darawiish forces. They
were conducting an operation against ISIS in the Baallade River area when their
vehicle was struck.
The explosions targeting Puntland forces in areas previously
liberated from ISIS have become a major challenge to the ongoing offensive
aimed at eradicating the militant group from the Bari region.
Puntland has recently lost several officers in similar
incidents, including senior commander Gen. Abdi Ali Qalyare, who was killed in
an explosion earlier this month.
Local authorities have accused some rural residents of
collaborating with ISIS by facilitating bomb attacks against government forces.
Several suspects are reportedly in custody in Bosaso.
Meanwhile, Puntland Defense Forces carried out a separate
operation on Tuesday morning in the Al Barako and Shinkaalayin wells in the
Baallade Valley, killing three ISIS fighters, according to security officials.
