Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia’s National Intelligence and
Security Agency (NISA), in coordination with international partners, has killed
23 al-Shabaab militants in a joint military operation conducted in the Middle
Shabelle region on Sunday.
According to security officials, the operation took place in
the village of El-Weyne, under the El-Baraf area of Mahaday district. The
strike targeted a site where al-Shabaab fighters had gathered, killing several
leaders and militiamen.
Officials said the operation was launched based on credible
intelligence that the group was assembling in the area to establish a new base
for organizing attacks aimed at destabilizing the country.
A similar operation was conducted in the same village on
October 30, 2025, which also dealt a significant blow to the militant group.
Preliminary reports indicate that no civilian casualties
were recorded, underscoring NISA’s efforts to minimize harm to non-combatants
during counterterrorism operations.
Security officials reaffirmed their commitment to continuing
such operations until al-Shabaab is completely eradicated, describing the group
as a persistent threat to peace and stability in Somalia.
