Saturday November 1, 2025

Beledweyne (HOL) — The new governor of Somalia’s Hiiraan region, Mohamed Hussein Mohamed, has vowed to restore security in Beledweyne, promising decisive action against armed robberies and other crimes that have shaken public confidence in recent months.
Mohamed officially took office on Friday night, replacing former governor Muse Salad Weheliye. During the handover ceremony, he pledged to make public safety the cornerstone of his administration and to confront criminal gangs that have long terrorized residents.
“Starting tonight, there will be no thieves harassing the poor mothers of Beledweyne,” Mohamed declared. “We will deal with the gangs and those behind the insecurity with an iron hand.”
He urged residents to cooperate with local authorities to strengthen security and promote development, noting that Hiiraan’s progress depends on joint efforts between citizens and government.
Beledweyne, the capital of Hiiraan and a major trading hub along the Shabelle River, has faced recurring insecurity marked by robberies and targeted attacks on civilians. Local elders and community leaders have pressed authorities for tougher law enforcement and greater coordination among regional security forces.
