Beledweyne (HOL) — The newly appointed governor of Hiiraan
region, Mohamed Hussein Mohamed, officially assumed office on Friday and
pledged to tackle the growing insecurity in Beledweyne, the regional capital.
Speaking at a handover ceremony from outgoing governor Muse
Salad Wehliye, Governor Mohamed — commonly known as Mohamed Hussein Arab —
vowed to take decisive action against crime, armed robbery, and public disorder
in the city.
“Starting tonight, we will no longer allow thieves to harass
poor mothers or terrorize residents in Beledweyne,” the governor said. “We will
confront the bandits and armed groups threatening the city’s peace with an iron
fist.”
He called on officials from the previous administration,
community leaders, and residents to work together to restore stability, promote
development, and address long-standing challenges in the Hiiraan region.
The governor’s remarks come amid heightened insecurity in
Beledweyne, where residents have faced an increase in violence and civilian
killings in recent months.
