Dhusamareeb (HOL) – Somali National Army (SNA) forces killed at least seven Al-Shabaab militants in a planned military operation on Thursday in the Geerile area of the Galgaduud region, military officials said.
The 85th Unit of the 77th Brigade led the assault, seizing weapons from the militants. The recovered arms, including a PKM machine gun and two AK-47 rifles, were later displayed in Cosweyne, a town within the Galmudug administration.
“The Somali army today conducted a successful operation in Geerile, eliminating seven Khawarij militants and capturing their weapons,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement. “This demonstrates the continued progress of our forces in the fight against the enemy.”
The Galgaduud region remains a stronghold for Al-Shabaab, where Somali security forces have ramped up military campaigns aimed at dismantling the militant group’s presence.
