Mogadishu (HOL) – Nearly 40,000 students across Somalia
began sitting for the 12th Grade Certificate Examination for the 2024–2025
academic year on Saturday, marking a major milestone in the country’s education
calendar.
According to the Ministry of Education, a total of 39,397
students are participating in the national exams across all regions and
districts of the country. State Minister of Education and other senior
officials officially launched the examinations in a nationwide effort involving
thousands of exam centers.
Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre extended special
congratulations to the Somali Police Force for securing the examination sites
and ensuring a smooth and peaceful testing process.
“I commend the forces that are safeguarding the security of
the national examination sites,” the Prime Minister said.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony, Barre reaffirmed
his government’s commitment to improving the quality and accessibility of
education nationwide. He emphasized that his administration will invest more in
the education sector and work to expand learning opportunities for all
students, regardless of background or region.
The national exam period is seen as a critical step in
Somalia’s ongoing education reform and is a major event in the academic year,
overseen by the federal government in coordination with regional authorities.
