Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education Farah Sheikh Abdulqadir announced on Sunday that the implementation of the long-promised 10,000-teacher recruitment plan is nearing completion.
The announcement follows President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s remarks during Somali Teachers’ Day celebrations on November 22, 2025, where he urged the Ministry of Education to accelerate the registration of the remaining teachers under the program.
“We are finalizing the 10,000-teacher plan, and at the same time we are providing training for all teachers currently in service,” the minister said. “Our focus is on strengthening the curriculum and rebuilding schools.”
The Ministry of Education has in recent months introduced reforms aimed at improving the quality of education and aligning the system with current national needs, with the goal of ensuring Somali children receive a better and more inclusive education.
The federal government has also stated that priority will be given to areas recently liberated from Al-Shabaab, in an effort to close longstanding education gaps and expand access to schooling in underserved communities.
