Kismayo (HOL) - Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madoobe on Monday held a meeting in Kismayo with a high-level United States government delegation led by the U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley.
Discussions focused on the overall situation in Somalia, with particular emphasis on security challenges and the humanitarian response in Jubbaland.
“Today Jubaland President Madobe and I met in Kismayo to discuss the importance of national unity to fight terrorism for the benefit of the people of Jubaland and all of Somalia,” Ambassador Riley said.
Senior Jubbaland ministers, including the Ministers of Interior and Planning and International Relations, were present at the meeting. According to a statement from the Jubbaland administration, part of the discussion also covered security operations and the broader state-building process in Somalia.
The meeting comes just weeks after Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited Kismayo for talks with President Madoobe. Those discussions ended without any tangible progress toward resolving the political standoff.
