Mogadishu (HOL) — A group of Somali Lower House lawmakers have submitted a motion against the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, criticizing his ministry management.
The motion was officially presented to the parliament's leadership on Saturday.
The lawmakers accused Fiqi of centralizing operations within the ministry, claiming that when the minister travels, the ministry's work largely comes to a standstill.
They also raised concerns about alleged misuse of the ministry's stamp by private companies, with extra fees imposed on citizens for services. The parliamentarians claimed that much of the money collected does not reach the federal government's coffers.
Minister Fiqi has yet to respond to the accusations. The motion is expected to be debated in upcoming parliamentary sessions.
Fiqi is currently attending the General Debate of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York as part of Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre's delegation.
