Ankara (HOL) — Somali Ambassador to Turkey, Fathudin Ospite, attended a meeting of East African ambassadors in Ankara on Friday to discuss enhancing economic and trade ties between Turkey and East Africa.
Somalia, the most recent member to join the East African regional bloc, was officially welcomed during the meeting.
The ambassadors underscored the importance of deepening relations between their countries and Turkey, particularly in trade and economic collaboration.
Turkey has actively participated in East African development efforts, joining the East African Community (EAC) Partnership Fund as an observer in 2015. It has participated in key EAC Partnership Fund meetings since then, helping facilitate regional development.
Beyond East Africa, Turkey has signed defense agreements with several African nations, including Somalia, Libya, Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Ghana.
These agreements have provided Turkey's defense industry with contracts, particularly for its reliable and cost-effective drones, expanding Turkey's influence across the continent.
