Somalia's Finance Minister highlights economic gains post-debt relief

Washington, D.C (HOL) - Somalia's Minister of Finance, Bihi Iman Egeh, recently held high-level discussions in Washington, D.C., with key officials from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to address Somalia's ongoing economic challenges and opportunities.

During his visit, Minister Bihi emphasized that Somalia has seen significant economic progress since achieving debt relief. He attributed the success to the concerted efforts of various stakeholders.

"It was a great pleasure to engage with Jihad Azour, the Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department IMF, today in Washington DC. We discussed the progress in successfully implementing Somalia's new wide-ranging 3-year economic reform program and growing the Somali economy. We are committed to strengthening domestic revenue mobilization, public financial management, and the overall macroeconomic stability of our country," the Minister said.

Minister of Finance added that Somalia has made remarkable economic strides following debt relief. "This is a cause for celebration. We are committed to consolidating these achievements further. My visit to the United States involved productive meetings with the World Bank and IMF leadership, and I am pleased to report that these discussions ended positively."

Minister Bihi also praised the Somali diaspora in the United States, particularly those who have achieved considerable success in the business sector. He urged them to continue their efforts and to build upon their accomplishments.

The Federal Government of Somalia remains focused on driving substantial economic growth, with ongoing initiatives to foster sustainable development across the country.
