Turkey donates long-range patrol boats to bolster Somalia’s maritime security

    Newly donated patrol boats from Turkey docked at Mogadishu’s main port. The vessels are part of a strategic effort to bolster Somalia’s maritime security and safeguard its extensive coastline.

    Mogadishu (HOL) —  Turkey has donated four long-range patrol boats to Somalia.

    Speaking at the ceremony at Mogadishu’s main port, the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia stressed the important role these patrol boats will play in securing Somalia’s vast and strategic coastline. He added that Turkish support for Somalia has been unwavering since 2011, marking a decade-long commitment. Senior military officials were also present at the event.

    State Minister of Defense Omar Ali Abdi expressed profound gratitude to the Turkish government, emphasizing that the boats will enhance efforts to combat criminal activities and protect maritime resources. “Turkey’s continued support is pivotal for our national security,” Minister Abdi stated.

    Minister Abdi urged Somalis to leverage the resources along the country’s coastline, emphasizing that secure waters are essential for harnessing economic opportunities and fostering national growth.
