Mogadishu police officer arrested after video of gun threat circulates on social media

    Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali security forces have arrested a police officer accused of terrorizing pedestrians with his gun in Mogadishu's Dharkenley district.

    The arrest came after a video surfaced on social media showing the officer, Mohamed Hussein Warsame, pointing a firearm and threatening people on the street. Warsame claimed he was joking and filming himself.

    The police command has confirmed that the officer will be brought before a competent court to face charges.

    The incident follows the fatal shooting of a manual laborer, Ismail Ali Mohamed, by a government soldier in Mogadishu's Hamarjabab district just two days earlier.

    The soldier allegedly shot Mohamed over a dispute involving less than $0.25, or 3,000 Somali shillings. The victim, a father of four, was killed after an argument with the soldier, who then fled the scene.
