Thursday August 1, 2024

Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali Council of Ministers approved a new anti-terrorism strategy and two legal reforms during Thursday's weekly meeting in Mogadishu.

Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre chaired the meeting in which the cabinet endorsed the National Strategy for 2024-2027 aimed at countering violent extremist ideology. The Tubsan National Center submitted the national strategy, which focuses on preventing and addressing extremist threats.

The Council also ratified a Memorandum of Understanding with Saudi Arabia on cooperation in combating corruption. The Council also approved an amendment to the Law on Management of Contracts.

In addition to the approvals, the Ministers of Defence, Internal Security, and Internal Affairs presented reports on the country's stabilization efforts, particularly in recently liberated areas.

Prime Minister Barre visited Jubbaland State on Wednesday to commend Somali National Army troops for their successful defence against al-Shabab militants. The Somali forces repelled an attack in the Lower Jubba region, killing over 80 insurgents and neutralizing four car bombs.
