MOGADISHU (HOL) –  A forensic audit report by Somalia's Office of the Auditor General has revealed extensive misconduct at the Somali Embassy in Muscat, Oman. The investigation, launched in 2022 and conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and FGS International Cooperation, spanned from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2023.

The audit identified several violations at the embassy, including corruption, authority abuse, document forgery, and misappropriation of funds. The report highlighted, "These findings reveal a concerning trend of unethical practices and financial mismanagement within the embassy."

The audit detailed violations that encompassed misuse of authority, improper handling of funds, fraudulent activities, unauthorized property auctions, and damage to the embassy's reputation. Additionally, illegal agreements made by the ambassador resulted in substantial government revenue losses, and donations from the Sultanate of Oman were misappropriated.

The audit, examining a four-year period, implicated a range of individuals, including senior officials and employees, in unlawful collaborations.

The report stressed the necessity of transparency and accountability in government operations, stating, "Appropriate management of financial and administrative powers is essential for ensuring stability, development, and trust in government institutions."
