Somali and Egyptian ministers discuss collaboration in youth and sports

Mogadishu (HOL) - Mohamed Barre, the Somalia Minister of Youth and Sports, met with his Egyptian counterpart, Ashraf Sobhy, during the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports meeting in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

The ministers discussed opportunities for collaboration in youth and sports activities and the participation of Somali youth in the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership program. The program, implemented by the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with other African nations, aims to develop leadership skills among African youth.

The last third edition of the Nasser Fellowship was held in June 2022 and brought 150 youth leaders from Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries to participate in the conference.

The conference was attended by youth leaders from several countries, including Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Ecuador, Armenia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Costa Rica, Hungary, Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Gambia, Tunisia, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Barre and Sobhy agreed to draft a cooperation protocol covering all aspects of the programmes and projects implemented throughout the year. The protocol aims to help Somali youth benefit from Egyptian expertise in improving sports infrastructure.
