At least 100 civilians lost their lives, and 300 others were wounded in Saturday's twin suicide bombings claimed by Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab militants.

Two explosives-packed automobiles blew up minutes apart near the bustling Zobe crossroads in an attack targeting Somalia's ministry of education.

PM Barre said that the federal government would be contributing $1 million to the emergency relief fund and would be covering the medical costs of all the victims.

The Council said that the Somali government would pay for the education of children who were orphaned in the attack.

The federal cabinet also promised to re-establish a blood bank on a national scale. Several Mogadishu hospitals were the subject of public ire on Sunday after hospital staff reportedly charged volunteers for blood tests.

The PM visited blast victims at Medina, Banadir and Erdogan hospitals on Sunday evening.

The cabinet also hinted at a possible security shakeup, promising to make "urgent changes to reflect the current situation."

In addition, schools have been ordered to close for three days while rescue and relief operations continue in the city.

The Prime Minister and the cabinet ministers called on the Somali people to support the army in the fight to rid the country of the al Shabaab.

"The Council of Ministers respectfully requests that the Somali people be more alert, patient, patient, and resilient during the operation to eliminate the enemy of the Khawarij, which has been defeated when confronted by the National Army, and as a result, they are desperately attempting to target the poor people."

The international community has roundly condemned al Shabaab for the attack.
