NAIROBI (HOL) - A Kenyan court will today deliver its verdict on the trial of three suspects accused of taking part in the terrorist attack at Nairobi’s Westgate Mall that killed 67 people and injured several others.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi deferred the verdict Monday but said it will be ready by 2pm local time Tuesday.
The prosecution is seeking the sentencing of Mohamed Abdul, Liban Abdallah Omar and Hussein Hassan Mustafa for their role in the 2013 attack.
A fourth suspect, Adan Dheq was acquitted for lack of evidence when the four were put on the defence in early 2019.
The verdict is seen as one of the most consequential trials against terror suspects in Kenya.
The militant group Al-Shabaab which claimed responsibility for the attack has since conducted other high profile attacks on Kenyan soil claiming several lives.
Close to 150 students were killed by Al-Shabaab during the attack at Garissa University in April 2015. In January 2019, the militants struck again killing 21 people in Nairobi’s Dusit II hotel.
