Ethiopian army flee to Sudan over clash with Tigrayian forces- local media

Monday November 9, 2020

ADDIS ABABA (HOL) - Thousands of Ethiopian forces have fled into Sudan following a clash with forces loyal to the rebel Tigrayian People’s Liberal Front (TPLF).

Local media in Sudan report that the soldiers including customs officials in the border town of Alaw have fled into Sudanese territory of the Gedaref State.

The news come amid heightened military tension in Tigray region after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed ordered the military to intervene in the restive Tigray state.

Meanwhile the Ethiopian PM has dismissed claims the Tigrayian forces were holding back the federal army and also rubbished reports Ethiopian was descending into civil war.

“Concerns that Ethiopia will descend into chaos are unfounded and a result of not understanding our context deeply,” Ahmed said in a tweet Monday.

“Our rule of law enforcement operation, as a sovereign state with the capacity to manage its own internal affairs, will wrap up soon by ending the prevailing impunity.”

Tigrayian forces said Monday they brought down a military jet in Maqale town adding they were still looking for the pilot.
