MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somalia may suspend flights from countries with reported cases of the novel corona virus, the country’s aviation boss has said.
Somali Civil Aviation Director Ahmed Maalim said Monday the government was monitoring the situation with a possible suspension of flights from affected countries. Immediate neighbors-Kenya and Ethiopia have since recorded cases of the fast spreading virus.
Maalim did not however cite any of the neighbors even as the continent braces itself for possible mass infections.
The aviation head said the ministry of health and immigration departments are soon meeting to chart the way forward.
Somalia has not recorded any case but four people who arrived in the country last week are under quarantine.
Kenya ordered closures of learning institutions Sunday and banned flights from affected countries for 30 days.
