The case which came up for fist mention in November 18 was deferred following a petition by the Himilo lawyers for more time.

The opposition party led by former President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed is suing the SCAA over what it termed as deliberate attempts to block him from traveling to Beletweyne on November 10.

Sharif, alongside his successor Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and MPs allied to the opposition coalition Forum for National Parties (FNP) were held up for about two hours at Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu before they were given the greenlight on November 10. The team was heading to Beletweyne to deliver relief supplies to victims of the floods.

The SCAA had argued the delays were on safety grounds noting the run-way in Beletweyne was ‘wet’ and therefore unsuitable for landing.

Sharif faced a near similar scenario September 22 when he was blocked from travelling to Kismayu to attend the inauguration of Jubbaland president Ahmed Madobe.
