President Farmajo meets former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at Villa Somalia

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo visited his future residence today where he was welcomed by former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The pair held their first meeting behind closed doors where they discussed details of the transition. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud pledged his support to Farmajo’s administration and said he would cooperate to ensure a smooth transition.

After the meeting, former President Hassan Sheikh gave President Farmajo a tour of the Villa Somalia.

Alpha Group, an elite unit of Somali soldiers trained in the US has been providing security for the President since his election.

Meanwhile, at the tomb of the unknown soldier, another pro-Farmajo demonstration was held.

The rally was mostly attended by women and children and was held by the Mayor of the Mogadishu.

Although he is the acting President since Hassan Shiekh Mohamud's mandate expired, Farmajo will formally take the reins after his inauguration next month.
