ERC holds joint meeting with charitable organisations to support ‘For You Somalia’ campaign

A joint meeting including all charitable and humanitarian organisations and institutions in the country was held on Wednesday to set a joint mechanism to achieve "For You Somalia" campaign.

The meeting, held at the main headquarters of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, is part of the campaign aimed at providing assistance for the famine-affected Somalis. ERC announced the beginning of the campaign at the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, support of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the ERC.

ERC's Secretary-General Dr. Mohammed Atiq Al Falahi conveyed the greetings of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed to the heads of charitable and humanitarian organisations and associations in the UAE.

He also said that the participants stressed the importance of enhancing the role of the country in humanitarian and charitable work across the globe to provide assistance to the underprivileged affected by catastrophes and disputes, as well as urgent relief for the fraternal people of Somalia to eliminate the repercussions of famine.

Al Falahi added that the campaign aims to reconstruct Somalia, and representatives of the humanitarian organisations emphasised the importance of setting a work plan and outputs to implement the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Representatives of Al Maktoum Foundation, Sharjah Charity International, Fujairah Welfare Association; Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, Dubai Charity Association and other charitable organisations attended the meeting.
